BIOGRAPHY
Low Maintenance is The World's Last, Best Punk Band. They play bastard groovy punk with fat riffs, tunes and attitude. Formed in Farnham, Surrey, with the aim of roughing up the Home Counties a little, their story so far is as follows......
Low Maintenance are:
Moss: Vocals, Guitar
Chris: Guitar, Backing Vocals
Dave: Bass
Rob: Drums
In the beginning...
Moss and Chris both played guitar, had similar musical tastes and drank in the same Farnham pub. Chris had been talking about forming a band for ages, but hadn't done anything about it. Moss was also looking to form a band and actually did something about it. The first rehearsal went surprisingly well and the search for like-minded individuals to complete the band was on. While songs were being written, singers came and went before Moss stepped up to the mic and belted out Pretty Vacant in tune and with the required attitude. We had a singer.
2005
Armed with a lucky 13 original songs, and a handful of covers, Low Maintenance make their live debut at the Old Ford, North Camp on Friday 17th June. It is hot, sweaty, and loud. The audience are completely out of it, but drag the band back on stage for two encores. Offers for more gigs roll in while the band are still packing away the gear, and there is talk of a demo...
Autumn comes, Moss meet Rob on starting a new job, when she crashed straight into him in the car park. One bumper, a write-off and one cool drummer. Dave's audition consisted of being dragged off to Moss's birthday celebrations at a belly dancing club. Meanwhile Moss and Chris have been writing new songs, including Strangers and Edge of Darkness. The completed Low Maintenance line up record a few songs at home for their first demo "Days without Shame or Glory"
2006
In January "Days without Shame or Glory" is released as a limited edition of 30 for friends and local promoters. Featuring four songs, with 'Punk Rock Waster' the lead track, it highlights the band's guitar-heavy, melodic approach. The Sex Pistols 'Pretty Vacant' is the sole cover but provides a reference point for the early Low Maintenance sound. 'Reagan's Dead' glorifies the death of the rubbish 80's American President at the same time as lamenting the loss of counter-cultural ideals. 'Pisshead' is a million miles an hour drinking song. The cover features an Argentinian dude kicking in a bank window at an Anti-Bush rally. It seems appropriate.
